A common recruiting strategy is to focus on having as many players from different time zones as possible so that your deed has a live person in game all the time. PVP deeds, especially ones under heavy threat of attack, tend to be populated by many people. On PVE servers many deeds are essentially owned, controlled and populated by one person. However this leads to the next difference between most PVE deeds and PVP ones. In the early stages of building a deed they can be very useful to keep harassment away from you as you build your first walls etc but when it comes to really making a difference in a large attack, the only thing they do is possibly provide you a little bit more warning and time to get ready for the assault. In my opinion, after seeing these results, spending on spirit templars is largely a waste of money. It was not uncommon to see one player fighting three tower guards at a time with minor to no damage to the player. The nearby tower guards who did assist the templars were also useless at being defenders. While advancing up a mountain, defending against archery and firing catapults they also were able to defeat the templars over and over again despite the templars respawning every 5 minutes. Not one landed a blow on him that hurt either him or his hell horse (I did finish the tower and he was nice enough to give me a round of applause - grin).Ģ) A highly effective 15 member Roman raiding force attacked a deed protected by 20 sprit templars. Here are two incidents to describe their effectiveness.ġ) While building a guard tower on a deed protected by 20 spirit templars a member of the BL HOTS kingdom tried to taunt me into coming out to do battle (instead of finishing the tower) while he was being chased by all 20 spirit templars. For a deed with the 20 guard maximum the cost to initially deploy them is 60 silver with an additional 60 silver required every month in order to keep them (on epic).įor 60 silver a month you might be wondering how effective they are to defend a deed. The maximum number of guards you are allowed on a deed is 20 (sometimes it is a lower number since deed size comes into play). These guards cost 3 silver each to deploy and another 3 silver per month as part of upkeep. While land costs can become significant if you intend to deed an entire mountain, they pale into insignificance as you begin to add in Spirit Templar/spirit shadows to give you some protection while villagers are offline. PVP deeds usually focus on covering the tactically important land around a deed so that you can reduce and remove any advantages any attacking force may have. The key here is that from a cost basis the primary focus is on the land costs. Of course many people have much larger deeds then that. When creating a deed on a PVE server most people tend to have no spirit Templar and the size of the deed is often maxed out at a number that guarantees you get the most land possible for the mandatory minimum 1 silver per month upkeep cost. Almost every decision made when building a deed will focus on how the decision impacts your ability to defend against an enemy attack. On active PVP servers the primary focus seems to be around defense. The key criteria tends to be what you would like to build with some possible considerations for the nearby neighboring deeds and close highways/canals etc. PVE deeds can be designed in virtually any type of design that you want. I think the biggest contrast between building a deed on a PVE server and building one on a PVP server is the design choice that comes from that simple decision of server type to build on.
