Malygos used the Arcanomicon to locate and tap into the ley lines, diverting the magical powers that course beneath the earth to the Nexus. He turned to the Arcanomicon, a map of the world's ley lines gifted to him ages ago by the titan Norgannon that had been continuously updated and revised by the blue dragonflight. Determined to forestall a catastrophe, Malygos decreed that the world's unbridled magic must be reined in by any means necessary. He blamed this dangerous development on the mortal races and their reckless pursuit of magical power. Having finally returned fully to his senses, Malygos quickly assessed the state of magical affairs in Azeroth and reached the grim conclusion that magic was running amok throughout the world. In doing so, his eyes were fully opened to the state of the world once more. Arygos and the blue dragons intervened to defend the Nexus, but it was Malygos who, awakening from his seclusion, destroyed the nether dragons and absorbed back their energies. They started to drain all its energy, declaring that they would never be enslaved to the orcs or anyone again. However, the Nexus' power was so great that they decided to claim the Nexus for themselves. Though the Demon Soul was destroyed, Deathwing survived, and Malygos returned to his long solitude.Īfter the reopening of the Dark Portal, the blue dragon Tyrygosa brought Zzeraku and other nether dragons to the Nexus in order for them to recuperate through its energies. Korialstrasz finally convinced Malygos to emerge from his lair by telling him that it finally seemed possible to avenge Deathwing's terrible crime. There he saw frozen corpses of ice trolls, wendigos, orcs, an elf, and even naga that had been left there by the Dragon Aspect. After the Second WarĪfter the Second War, Korialstrasz of the red dragonflight visited Malygos' sanctum. Following the death of Medivh, Aegwynn gave the staff to the Kirin Tor, who stored it in the Nexus Vault. Many years later Aluneth would became bound within the greatstaff of the Guardian of Tirisfal. After years of conducting harmless experiments on Aluneth, the blue dragons had satisfied their curiosity and sent the entity back to its own realm. Rather than becoming angry about the destruction, they were delighted by Aluneth's capricious nature. Aluneth immediately went on a rampage through the Nexu, destroying countless rare artifacts and tomes of power before finally being contained. They were so intrigued by Aluneth's existence that they summoned the entity into Azeroth for further study. AlunethĪt some point while manipulating the fabric of reality, the blue dragons tapped into another realm of existence and made contact with a strange arcane entity called Aluneth. The Highborne thieves managed to escape, but the dragons took their retribution on Shandaral. The theft triggered the Nexus's magical wards, sending the few surviving blue dragons into a frenzy. The Highborne succeeded in learning the dragons' techniques, but their greed drove them to steal powerful artifacts as well. Īpproximately four thousand years later, a group of Shandaral Highborne sorcerers infiltrated the Nexus in order to learn their secrets about magic. He would pay little heed to the rest of the world for millennia thereafter. Malygos soon came back, and, maddened by grief, withdrew deep into the Nexus. Already knowing what would happen next, Krasus infiltrated Malygos' lair in order to safeguard some of the now-abandoned blue eggs, fighting the magical constructs protecting the caverns. During the War of the Ancients, he watched in horror as Deathwing all but wiped out the blue flight before scattering the remaining dragons away. The blue Dragon Aspect, Malygos, was charged ages ago by the titans as the guardian of magic.
